Silke Nebel, PH.D.
Vice-President, Key Conservation Initiatives
I developed a passion for birds while volunteering at a reserve run by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in Scotland, fresh out of high school. Birds have been a guiding theme for me ever since – I did my MSc research on Red Knots in the Netherlands, and my PhD work on Western Sandpipers at SFU. I have worked on bird-related research out of research institutes in Canada, Germany, Panama, the Netherlands, and Australia. In 2018, I joined Birds Canada, where I am currently focussing on market-based instruments to protect grassland birds.
