Rielle Hoeg

Atlantic Outreach Biologist

I grew up in rural Nova Scotia and spent much of my time outside searching for critters and playing in the woods. To this day, I regularly prolong hikes by lingering to look at plants, fungi, and of course, birds! During my undergraduate and Master’s degrees at Acadia University, I had opportunities to work with shorebirds, aerial insectivores, and my favourite seabirds: Leach’s Storm-petrels! For my Master’s degree, I looked at predation at Leach’s Storm-petrel colonies, which solidified my desire to do conservation work, and my love for sharing knowledge with others. My position at Birds Canada allows me to do both alongside a team of passionate, inspiring people. Seeing the beginnings of an interest in birds and conservation in someone, or hearing the lengths that a volunteer or landowner goes to in stewarding a species are the best and most uplifting parts of my job!
