Mercy Harris

Key Biodiversity Area Technician

Hello there! I joined Birds Canada in January of 2023 to help with the transition from the Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) system to the Key Biodiversity Area (KBA) system. I am enjoying learning about all the interesting places that are critical for North American birds, and I am hoping to visit some sites soon (Newfoundland, here I come!). Learning about and experiencing new places and ecosystems excites me—so far I have learned to love the Appalachian Oak-Hickory-Poplar forests of southern Pennsylvania where I grew up, explored the St-Lawrence Lowlands during my undergraduate years at McGill, and am now adventuring throughout the Saskatchewan mixed-grass prairies, where I have lived since I moved here to start grad school at the University of Saskatchewan in 2019 (studying Barn and Tree Swallow foraging and diet).
