Brendan Boyd, Ph.D.

Ontario Forest Birds Program Coordinator

Growing up in Toronto, I always dreamed of getting out of the city. I spent my time obsessing over field guides and exploring any green spaces that the city had to offer. When my dad arranged for us to spend a morning at the Toronto Bird Observatory on the Toronto Islands, this only further fueled the obsession. It felt inevitable that I would eventually pursue a career that revolved around birds, and going back to school in 2016 was the first major step. For my Ph.D research, I used the Motus Wildlife Tracking System to look at the long term effects of nesting in small forest fragments for Wood Thrushes. This allowed me to spend four field seasons living at Long Point, fully immersed in the heart of Ontario’s Carolinian region. I am thrilled to once again be working in this amazingly biodiverse area, and excited to play a key role in the conservation of Ontario’s forest birds.
