Pete Davidson
Vice-President, Science
Pete’s passion for birds and the natural world took flight around the age of six. He has been fortunate enough to turn that love into a 30+ year career dedicated to bird conservation, working at the NGO-government-academic nexus on four continents (North America, Europe, Africa and Asia). Twenty of those years have been with Birds Canada, in field research, volunteer-based science, management, senior advisory, and now Vice President roles. He holds a Masters degree in Ecology, has authored two books, more than 25 peer-reviewed journal papers, including describing two species new to western science, and many technical reports and popular articles on bird status and conservation. Pete’s nature-based worldview is influenced by multiple cultures, and he now enjoys the privilege of stewarding a small patch of coastal douglas-fir ecosystem on Salt Spring Island on the Pacific Coast, where he lives and works. He is deeply interested in the influence of human activities and societies on bird populations and ecosystem health, and finding scalable solutions that can tip the balance back toward thriving systems.
