It’s finally here! The first-ever Vancouver International Bird Festival kicks off August 19. If you’re in the area, come out and celebrate birds through art, poetry, comedy, roundtable discussions, talks, birding events, and more. There will be something for bird nerds and bird newbies of all ages.

Festival Preview at Vancouver Public Library
18 August, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., 350 West Georgia Street
If you’re just as excited as we are for the bird festival to get underway, why wait until the official opening? Enjoy entertainment, presentations, art, and more at this free, family-friendly preview. Come and say “hi” to our BC team at the Bird Studies Canada booth!
“Getting Into Birding” Presentation
22 August, 12:20 p.m., Science World (1455 Quebec Street) – Centre Stage.
Want to add more birds to your life, but don’t know where to start? In this presentation, Bird Studies Canada’s Jody Allair will tell you what you need to know to get started and share stories to inspire you on your birding journey. Once you take up this life-enriching habit, you’ll never want to stop! Regular admission to Science World applies.
Nature and Bird Expo
23-25 August, Vancouver Convention Centre – West Building (1055 Canada Place).
Explore the largest showcase of bird and nature exhibitors in Canada! Meet our staff at the Bird Studies Canada booth (booth #128) and talk to us about research, stewardship, Citizen Science, and more. Learn more about the expo and purchase day passes here.
Birds of a Feather: The Reciprocal Benefits of Protecting Biodiversity
24 August, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., Vancouver Convention Centre – West Building (1055 Canada Place).
Explore the special relationships between humans and birds. Keynote speaker Purnima Barman will share stories about her work to research and conserve Greater Adjutant Storks in India. Midori Nicholson will speak to the role of birds as valuable coastal indicators and their significance in the Kwakwaka’wakw culture. Get your tickets here.
Birds and Yoga
25 August, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m., Vancouver Convention Centre – Jack Poole Plaza (1055 Canada Place).
From eagles to crows, birds have inspired yoga philosophies and practices for centuries. Join us for a free one-hour yoga class led by Kate Fremlin that explores bird and nature imagery. It is suitable for all levels, including newcomers to yoga. Space is limited, so make sure you register here.
