Your Christmas Bird Count Highlights

24 January 2019 – The 119th Christmas Bird Count (CBC) season officially ended on 5 January 2019. Results are still coming in, but some highlights reported so far include a Western Kingbird seen during the Long Point count (a first for Ontario CBCs!) and surges in Eurasian Collared-Doves in the west (and even an appearance in Hamilton, ON).

William H. Moore, Canada’s First Christmas Bird Counter

14 December 2018 – It was 9 a.m. on Christmas morning 1900. That was the moment when, according to National Audubon Society data, “Wm. H. Moore of Scotch Lake, York County, New Brunswick” became Canada’s first Christmas Bird Counter.

Bird Studies Canada’s Christmas Bird Count and CBC4Kids Photo Contest

19 October 2018 – We would like to share some of your favourite memories from the 2018-2019 Christmas Bird Count (CBC) or Christmas Bird Count for Kids (CBC4Kids)! To enter Bird Studies Canada’s photo contest, email us your best shots from this season’s CBC or CBC4Kids. The contest is open from December 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019. Each participant will be entered into a random prize draw, and three winners will be drawn (one for each category).

Another Christmas Bird Count for the Books – Thank You!

19 January 2018 – Bird Studies Canada thanks all the participants who have once again made the Christmas Bird Count (CBC) a huge success. From December 14, 2017 to January 5, 2018, thousands of birders and outdoor enthusiasts counted millions of winter birds across the continent.
