Summer is the perfect time to explore outside and discover some new favourite places. Looking for tips on where to go birding? We’ve partnered with Greystone Books to offer you a chance to win books by birding experts to point you in the right direction. All you need to do is visit Bird Studies Canada on Instagram (@BirdStudiesCan) between July 15 and August 15, 2019 and tell us where in Canada you think is the “best place to bird”!

The Prizes
One grand prize winner will receive a set of three books courtesy of Greystone Books:
The Best Places to Bird in British Columbia by Russell Cannings and Richard Cannings;
The Best Places to Bird in the Prairies by John Acorn, Alan Smith, and Nicola Koper; and
The Best Places to Bird in Ontario (the latest installment in the series) by Kenneth Burrell and Michael Burrell.
Two runners up will each receive one book of their choice from the above list.

How to Enter
The entry period will be open from July 15, 2019 at 12:00 p.m. EST to Aug 15, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
One post will be published on Bird Studies Canada’s Instagram account (@BirdStudiesCan) each week of the contest asking entrants to comment on the “best places to bird in Canada.” We recommend that you follow our Instagram account so you can keep an eye out for these posts.
To enter, simply leave a comment on one of the contest posts telling us about one of your favourite places to go birding in Canada. You can comment more than once, but only one draw entry will be granted per entrant.
The winners will be selected by a random draw on August 19, 2019 and announced the same day. The winners will also be notified on Instagram by Bird Studies Canada.
Only those living in Canada and the Continental U.S. are eligible to win prizes.

If You Win
Bird Studies Canada will announce the names of the Grand Prize winner and two runners up on Friday, August 19, 2019. Bird Studies Canada will also contact the prize winners through an Instagram Direct message that same day.
The prize winners must provide Bird Studies Canada with a mailing address in order to receive their prizes. The prizes will be shipped from Greystone Books. Winners can expect to receive their prizes within three weeks of providing their mailing address. The mailing addresses of the prize winners will not be used by Bird Studies Canada or Greystone Books for any reason other than to mail the prizes.
If a winner’s mailing address is not provided by 11:59 p.m. on August 31, 2019, the winner forfeits their chance to claim to prize. Another winner will be randomly selected until the three prizes have been awarded.

Please Note
Comments that are judged by Bird Studies Canada staff to be inappropriate (e.g., that direct people to locations that are illegal to access, that encourage practices that are likely to be detrimental to birds or their habitats) will be deleted and the person who posted the comment will not be entered in the draw. Please see the American Birding Association Code of Birding Ethics for further guidance as to what comments may be considered inappropriate.
The contest is being run by Bird Studies Canada. It is in no way sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with, Instagram.
The approximate value is $75 for the grand prize and $25 for each runner-up prize.
The odds of winning depend on the number of entries received.
