Bird Studies Canada: Privacy and Security Policies
This web site is operated by BSC for the benefit of our members, citizen scientists, and those interested in supporting our organization and its research and work. It is free for use by individual web users. No registration is required, except for specific portions of the site such as the online data entry pages, where the access may be limited to registered participants. Registration is free for some of our survey programs, but others are only available to current members of Bird Studies Canada.
The privacy of our users is important to us. BSC does not collect any personal information about users, except that which is knowingly and specifically supplied to us by the user. We will not disclose any personal information about users to any outside parties unless the user was advised of this possibility before providing the personal information.
Where an individual uses his or her home contact information as business contact information as well, BSC considers that the contact information provided is personal contact information, and is therefore subject to protection as personal information.
Personal information gathered by BSC is kept in confidence. BSC personnel are authorized to access personal information based only on their need to deal with the information for the reason(s) for which it was obtained. Safeguards are in place to ensure that the information is not disclosed or shared more widely than is necessary to achieve the purpose for which it was gathered. We also take measures to ensure the integrity of this information is maintained and to prevent its being lost or destroyed.
BSC uses password protocols and encryption software to protect personal and other information we receive when data are entered onto our system. Our software is routinely updated to maximize protection of such information.
From time to time, BSC may send information regarding our programs, special issues, membership, and other correspondence. If you would prefer not to receive this information, please contact us by mail at the address below or e-mail email@example.com. Thank you.
We may change this policy from time to time by updating this posting. Please check this page periodically for changes. Your continued use of this site following the posting of changes to this policy will mean you accept those changes.
