Download eBird files

The data available here are ready for importing into eBird Canada (using the eBird record format). For instructions on how to proceed, click here.

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. select the protocol for which you would like to download data from the NatureCounts project
  2. we recommend that you download the data one year and one dataset at a time, but you can also select all years and all datasets
  3. if you have already downloaded data earlier, you can restrict the data download to new observations or forms that have changed since your last download. The date you must enter is that of your last download, but you may receive that data may be for earlier dates if they were submitted since your last download.
  4. click Download data and save the ZIP file on your computer (remember where you save it)
  5. you MUST UNZIP the files contained in the downloaded zip file. Those are CSV files (compatible with Excel) that can be used to import into eBird. If you have a lot of data, you may see several files. This is due to restriction on the file size that can be imported in eBird at a given time.
  6. go to eBird Canada, click on Submit Observations, enter your login if requested, and then select Import Data
  7. click browse and find the first CSV file you want to import.
  8. select the eBird Record Format (Extended)
  9. click Import File
  10. follow the instructions detailed here to learn how to fix location or species problems (if needed).
  11. start the process again at step #7 above to import another file if needed
